Enabling a Decade of Healthy Ageing in Canada
As Canada’s population continues to age, with around one-quarter of the population reaching 65 years of age in the next decade, we face profound challenges and opportunities. The choices we make and the actions we take over the next 10 years will define the experience of ageing for older Canadians today and for generations to come.
At this crucial time of reform, the National Institute on Ageing has a bold ambition — to lead a Decade of Healthy Ageing in Canada. Through a decade of concerted research and advocacy for the health, well-being and financial security of older Canadians, the NIA aims to be a driver of progress, a convener of knowledge and a hub of innovation. Our efforts align with the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing, allowing the NIA to be part of an international movement to create a better world for older adults.
The cornerstone of the Enabling Decade of Healthy Ageing in Canada project is the NIA’s annual Ageing in Canada Survey. Through this work, the NIA will generate key metrics and reliable data to chart national progress while simultaneously creating issue-specific resources to enable older adults and their loved ones to make the best possible choices about their health, well-being and financial security today and in the future.
