Terri (Yuk Ling) Tan
Terri has spent the past several years learning what it means to be a good neighbour. She previously worked as a social worker assistant at The Neighbourhood Group Community Services in downtown Toronto, helping low-income older adult immigrants access government benefits and community services. She later joined Algoma Community Legal Clinic as a Debwewin Summer Law Student, where she supported First Nations, Métis, and low-income clients with housing and income-security matters, including Landlord and Tenant Board proceedings and Ontario Disability Support Program appeals. These experiences reinforced her belief that effective advocacy begins with listening carefully to people’s experiences and using those insights to advance legal solutions that better respond to the needs of the communities they serve.
Terri holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and a Juris Doctor from Queen’s University. While at Queen’s, she served as a research assistant examining environmental equity and climate change litigation in Canada and the United States and co-led the Queen’s Environmental Law Club.
