Stefanie Tan

Stefanie Tan is Vice President of Research at MedicAlert Foundation Canada, the national health charity that provides emergency medical identification and 24/7 emergency response for more than one million Canadians. She built and leads the organization’s research function, developing its academic partnerships and its approach to research governance and ethical data stewardship. Her work focuses on dementia safety and wandering risk, technologies that support aging in place, and health equity for populations that are underserved by conventional research. Stefanie is an internationally trained physician who moved from clinical medicine into public health research and organizational leadership. She holds an MD from De La Salle University in Manila and an MPH from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. At the National Institute on Ageing, Stefanie’s work focuses on the safety and independence of older adults ageing in place, particularly those living with dementia and the caregivers who support them. Her research aims to strengthen the evidence behind digital safety technologies and emergency response so that policy and practice can better protect people who are most at risk.
