NIA Newsletter – November 2025
Earlier this month, the federal government tabled Budget 2025, “Canada Strong” – a plan focused on major investments in infrastructure while also reducing operating costs. While the budget maintained funding for cornerstone programs like dental care and pharmacare, it offered few new measures to meet the needs of a rapidly ageing population — and leaves important commitments still to be fulfilled.
One continuing program, the Canadian Dental Care Plan, may already be making a meaningful difference in reducing hardship for older Canadians. According to new NIA research, the share of older adults unable to afford dental care fell from 16% to 11%. To put it another way, in just one year, the number of older adults unable to afford dental care has dropped by nearly one-third (31%). If you missed our recent commentary, have a look here.
