Emily Elizabeth Smith

Emily Elizabeth Smith is a dedicated policy professional with nearly a decade of experience working for the federal public service on Indigenous relations, policy analysis, and strategic engagement. Prior to joining the National Institute on Ageing, Emily held multiple roles within the Canadian Coast Guard and Canada Border Services Agency. She takes great pride in her efforts to advance Reconciliation and has actively led federal recognition programming on Orange Shirt Day and the North American Indigenous Games as well as policy development on federal-Indigenous relations.

Emily deeply values intergenerational connections and was the co-chair of the national Mentorship Community of Practice (CoP) since its creation; the CoP facilitates mentorship programming across the federal public service. This voluntary role led her to engage with public servants across the country at various stages of their careers and oversaw several successful mentoring programs and events.

Emily holds a Master of Education and a Joint Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Linguistics from the University of Ottawa. She is also fluent in English, French and Spanish.
